Eagles : Eagles at Lock & Dam #11 at Dubuque, Iowa on December 31, 2007. The eagles were a little bit too far away for my 85 - 300 mm zoom lens. These shots are obviously blown up. My first attempt with my new lens, a Christmas present from my lovely wife. The second group was shot on January 20th. These were hand held from a spot closer to the lock & dam, where the eagles flew over head. The river was more frozen after a week of temps in the teens or below. Barns and Farm Buildings : Various farm buildings around Galena, Woodbine, Apple River, Nora, Rockford, IL, Bellvue, IA and Hazel Green, WI are the subjects of these photos. Unlike many barn galleries that capture the entire building, I prefer to isolate sections of interest based on the texture, color, shape or abstract design I see. There are some associated photos of stage coaches, tractors, flags and welded metal dinosaurs that are located on farm property. Photos may be purchased through Smug Mug.

Apple River Fort : Apple River Fort is a recreation on the site of the original fort near Elizabeth, IL. A museum and history display is just off US 20 in Elizabeth. The fort served as a refuge for towns people during the Blackhawk war. While the men were off assisting other settlers nearby who had been attacked by Indians, Blackhawk's warriors attacked the fort. The defenders, led by a woman named Elizabeth, held off the attack. The town name was changed to honor her leadership in the defense of the fort. A prairie restoration covers a hillside near the fort. Re-enactors provide a look back in history during summer months onsite.

Galena Luminaria 2005 : Four of these photos appeared on the Galena Chamber of Commerce web site. This year's luminaria had no snow and it didn't feel as festive as last year. The 2005 Galena Luminaria took place on a seven degree, hold your breath while shooting night. Photos taken with tripod, gloves and hot chocolate with mostly the night scene setting.

A five year project built of bits of pottery, colored glass, gems, porcelan, sea shells, coral, rock crytals, petrified wood and other material gathered from all over the world. Wind Farm : New wind farm north of Stagecoach Trail East of Nora, Illinois and west of Lena, IL. Ten turbines are turning as of March 22nd. The farm is planning on being in full production by the end of March. With an ethanol plant nearby in Lena, IL, this area becomes a focal point of alternative energy production.
